My Unique Process
The creation of each piece begins with a flat sheet of metal, carefully shaped using a sheet metal brake. Some of the most compelling work to emerge from the studio is created in collaboration with my husband, John Picard, whose years of commercial metal experience expand what is possible in form, structure, and finish. Together, we are often able to achieve results that go far beyond what either of us would create individually. The patina colors emerge organically from the copper itself, capturing the essence of nature through the application of salts and acids that produce captivating, one-of-a-kind patinas. Our process is a blend of many disciplines, incorporating techniques acquired through formal studies, while the artwork and the unique methods behind it remain entirely original; evolving through years of personal exploration. About the Artist
Growing up in New England, I developed a deep connection to the patterns and forces of the natural world.
My formal training as a jeweler, along with a BFA from Maine College of Art, laid the foundation for decades of exploring metal, chemistry, and surface design. I’m fascinated by how metal changes over time, revealing unexpected color, texture, and pattern. Each piece feels like a collaboration between intention, chemistry, and chance. The themes that continue to shape my work include: ocean, desert, mountain, cityscape, planets, microscopic life, plant biology, and the fractal geometry found throughout nature. Each artwork becomes a translation of these forms through metal, chemistry, and time-an evolving exploration of science, art and the transformative beauty of patina. See my full CV Vertical Divider

Caring for Copper
To ensure longevity, we finish each piece with multiple layers of sealant. This not only protects the artwork from UV sunlight but also preserves the vibrant colors and prevents further oxidation. No special care is required.
*When ordering a piece keep in mind that each piece is an individual work of art. Patina colors vary and the artwork may exhibit subtle tooling and sanding marks. The satin-like appearance of the exposed copper is intentional, and any marks remain protected beneath the lacquered surface. Every work is painstakingly hand-formed rather than machine-made, and its beauty lies in the individuality and organic imperfections inherent to the process. All copper works are lightweight and easy to hang. The copper is reinforced with wood framing for added stability. |
